exploded VW Beetle

“The ‘exploded’ Beetle owes something to the cartoonist’s bag of tricks: telescoping rods have been inserted so that headlights ‘bug’ outward and a strata of gears and casings fan through the air. Ortega has literalized the spitting, sneezing, ramshackle character of the car; its expansiveness is absurd and poetic at once.”

Damian Ortega’s exploded VW Beetle. Currently on exhibition at the MOCA.

  1. There have been allready bevor displays of exploded vehicles just has close as the Technorama Winterthur is. There it have been for years an exploded Citroen 2CV on display. I do not know if it is still there or not.

  2. Damien Ortega is a plagiarist. The German artist Stefan Sous already explored suspended and “deconstructed” cars (and other objects) in the early nineties, long before Ortega and just recently Paul Veroude (a dutch plagiarist) did. Go to http://www.stefansous.com and see for yourself (for example “Pallas”, “Taxi” and “berliner luftpost” among others).

A Quote from Wikipedia on plagiarism: “Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism).
