I thought the world supply of cork was running out? And now I see this cork stool at MoMAstore.org? Wow! (Designed by Jasper Morrison)

  1. It’s unlikely we’ll run out of cork since all the harvester does is peel the outer layer of the cork oak tree every 10 years or so.

But if cork was devalued (say the world switched from cork wine stoppers to metal screw on caps) there is a possibility that some of the land cork oaks grow on would be converted to other uses since simple economics would come into play.

  2. We also found this African-style chair made in cork: http://cocolico.info/2006/01/26/even-ants-have-their-cork-chair/
Unfortunately, it’s not for human, although we wish there’s a way to compact granulate cork so hard they could fit this design.
