My Leica D Lux 3 is making me happy.

Santa G was really good to me last christmas and got me a Leica D-LUX 3 . I know, lucky me. I am loving it! I still have to get used to the overall handling but definitely enjoy my new gadget. I knew my Canon inside out and am slightly impatient at getting to the same comfort level in using the Leica Menu. One thing’s for sure though, they could definitely improve the ‘look and feel and intuitivenenss’ of the menu. Some of you expressed (over and over) that one should buy the Lumix instead. Call me superficial, or ‘a typical designer’, but that ‘little red dot’ and the “Leica Camera Germany” imprint on the back is making me very happy. Thank you again, Santa G!

  1. I have a Lumix and the pics have a LOT of noise….

  2. I got this camera in late November and I have the same impression of its handling and menus. I feel that the Leica D-Lux 3 wants to be a digital camera with something of a classic camera feel (thus the lens cap, etc.) One small addition that I think would have made a big difference would be to add a neck-strap loop to the other side. I want to hang the camera around my neck like a classic camera. I can’t always carry the camera around on the wrist strap, which means I either leave the camera at home, or I have it inconveniently tucked away in a bag while a photo opportunity comes and goes.

  3. I’d lost my Canon at Coney Island this past summer and when I saw the D-LUX3 on your gift/wish list I knew I HAD TO HAVE IT. And I did, just a week ago and am also crazy in love with it. Geez, that red dot, the logo…

My thoughts are the same on the menu, but other than that, the photos come out fab and it’s made me happy to the point that I don’t leave home without it.

PS. Thank you so much for posting all the wonderful things you do (I’ve got the perfect camera now!), I check your blog at least twice a day knowing that you will present some delight to myself and the world…

  4. I bought my dlux3 before moving from Switzerland to Australia. I can wholeheartedly recommend the leather case — it’s handy and so pretty!

  5. Hi,

I was wondering if you had any pictures you took with your Leica because it seems to be a really nice camera!
I really like your blog and the way everything is explained on it. Thanks again
