First Things First Manifesto 2000
… We propose a reversal of priorities in favor of more useful, lasting and democratic forms of communication – a mindshift away from product marketing and toward the exploration and production of a new kind of meaning. The scope of debate is shrinking; it must expand. Consumerism is running uncontested; it must be challenged by other perspectives expressed, in part, through the visual languages and resources of design. …
The above is an excerpt of a manifesto that was first published in 1999 in Emigre 51.

Truth in Advertising revisited
Jason reminded me of the “Truth in Advertising” at today’s Likemind. It’s been a while since I saw it last. Still made me laugh out loud.

lala.com
Sean just rocked my world when telling me about lala.com. Lala allows you to trade CDs that you no longer want with the one your heart desires. Once you are trade enabled simply list the CDs you own in your Have List and the CDs you’d like to receive in your Want List. When lala finds another member who is interested in one of your CDs, you will see a “Ship It” button next to the requested CD in your Have List. By clicking this button you will begin the process of agreeing to ship your CD to another Lala member. When Lala finds another member who is willing to send you a CD you want, you will be notified as soon as it’s on its way to you. How ingenious is this?
Kraak & Smaak – Squeeze me

The Art Of Microfame
(Photo: Getty Images (Tila Tequila and Jakob Lodwick); Courtesy of The Show with Ze Frank (Ze Frank); The Cobrasnake (Cory Kennedy)
It’s easy to be cynical about this new class of celebrity. The lines between empowerment and self-promotion, between sharing and oversharing, between community and cliques, can be blurry. You can judge for yourself whether the following microcelebs represent naked ambition, talent justly discovered, or genius marketing. The point is that renown is no longer the exclusive province of a select few. Nano-celebrity is there for the taking, if you really want it.
STEPS TO MICROFAME
• 1. Self-publish
• 2. Stylize
• 3. Overshare
• 4. Respond
• 5. Ally
• 6. Diversify
• 7. Create Controversy
• 8. Persist

I wish there was a ‘who reblogged who?’ visualization tool, kind of a “Visual Thesaurus” of reblogging.
