A human being should be able to…

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

  1. Actually, a quote from the book “Long Enough for Love”, from the main character, “Lazarus Long”. One which made it into the “Notebooks”, published later on.

Thus, not “Robert A. Heinlein” but a character in one of his books.

  2. kind of a good point. But I still don’t want to butcher a hog :)

  3. Thanks a bunch for stopping by Tina.

  4. Seeing this, reminded me of an article on Jacks of all trades. The author also included this quote as an opener.

It’s an interest read. Have a look.
