OXO Guardian Nightlight

The OXO Candela Guardian is officially my new favorite gift for (new) parents. My lovely friend BB gave me one for my birthday last week, knowing that our little Ella still wakes up at least once a night. I love it. It’s one of these products that I’ve looked at before but for some reason didn’t end up buying. Little did I know that this little light gives off *just* the right amount of light for a little night-walking (or a potential diaper change) and lasts all night. Thank you BB!
An Apple A Day letterpress poster

Here’s a quick and easy way to keep in tip top shape. Just peel the little variety sticker from every apple you eat and affix it to a square. Keep it interesting. Try a Belle De Boskoop, a Newtown Pippin, how about a Peasgood Nonsuch, or maybe a Turley Winesap. There’s no shortage of combinations and imagine how good you’ll feel, when, after a years time, you’ve filled each square with a colorful little sticker.
Designing Universal Knowledge: The World as Flatland – Report 1

Knowledge is power. If one possesses a collection of the ‘universal knowledge’ of the world, one has ultimate power. Establishing comprehensive, global collections of knowledge already fascinated mankind thousands of years ago. Today, modern communication and information technologies offer quick and prompt collecting, high memory capacities and wide-ranging access. In addition, globalization and the Internet advance a mentality which moves away from the local and regional towards the international and universal. The author examines collections of knowledge such as archives, encyclopedias, data collections, and libraries that make knowledge accessible worldwide.
Who is collecting the world’s knowledge?
How are knowledge archives structured and designed?
Who determines the access to this knowledge?
What knowledge entails power?

Return of the Mobile Style Sheet
If you’re just getting started with mobile design, you may face a number of hurdles, including the cost or technical challenge of designing and maintaining a second site—or a simple lack of understanding of how people on the go might use your site. This article discusses a first step toward mobile design that uses CSS to maximize interoperability across platforms. By starting simple, you can provide a decent initial experience, solicit user feedback, and iterate toward a more mobile-friendly design. This is the approach we are taking in our redesign of the W3C site.

A question for my readers…
Jonnie asked the following question on twitter: Does anyone know if there’s a single font that would allow all international characters? (Chinese, Hebrew, Korean, Cyrillic) And now I am curious to know, is there? Anyone?
Monday morning wish.
Here’s my monday morning wish: I would like an etsy-like site that would allow me to have a nice designed online store to sell all my designy stuff (purses, jewlery, cameras etc) that’s too nice to just give away. I just *can’t* get myself to list them on Ebay or Craigslist. I have some really nice designy stuff that would instantly look crap on Ebay and I can’t handle the weirdness of people showing up at my door (Craigslist) and starting to haggle after you negotiated a price… So, I was thinking if etsy would create an off-shoot site that would allow to sell personal things, that would be fabulous, no?! Thoughts?
