Giving 20 percent of the company's profits to world water relief and reforestation foundations seems to fall into the same category of philanthropy as Philip Morris' smoking cessation program, no?

You might find <a href="http://theredwhiteandgreen.com/2009/03/27/boxed-water-bs/" rel="nofollow">this post</a> interesting.

That is of course the other issue. When looking at the impact of this versus a plastic bottle, they need to take account of the fact that you can reuse a plastic bottle. Obviously most bottles aren't reused, but I'm sure plenty are. I know I reuse any I buy many times. The mantra is supposed to be "reduce, reuse, recycle". This does little for #1 even if you believe their info, is far worse for #2, and quite a bit worse for #3. Fail.

UGH! Products like this make me feel physically ill. "Boxed Water Is Better"????? Give me a break -- TAP WATER IN A GLASS (or in a reusable bottle, if you're on the go) IS BETTER.

I am so disturbed by the number of companies trying to cash in on so-called "green" merchandising. It's a total joke, and I'm shocked that would-be consumers actually believe it and think they're doing something good in the process of buying more STUFF.

Why b&w? Shouldn't be somehow blue? If it was milk - b&w is ok. The packaging is misleading and uninformative. Poor job.

Not sure boxed water is any better than bottled. Bottles aren't great, but if they were recycled, it would go a long way to dealing with the amount of energy used to produce in the first place.

But as Bob already said, water is already available to us via the tap. I'd also argue that plastic bottles at least have the added convenience of being easy to take with you...I doubt we'll see many folks carrying a carton of water on their excursions).

Personally, I'd rather see folks carrying a Sigg bottle with filtered/purified tap water.

An old but still interesting article on the subject of the water bottle industry is worth the read: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/117/features-message-in-a-bottle.html

Should we really be encouraging bottled (or boxed) water? In the end, it's still a lot of packaging for something that is readily available from your tap.

The packaging is beautiful, no doubt about it. But the product is completely unnecessary.

Hmm...but is it? TetraPaks (and equivalents) are notoriously hard to recycle.
