Travel Therapy

My friend Rob Holub wrote a theme song for a book called Travel Therapy: Where Do You Need to Go?, by Karen Schaler. It’s the world’s first theme song for a book to inspire your next vacation. I honstely like the idea of looking up my ailment and a have a book tell me where I should travel to to get better. Ha! Congrats Rob!
to gift peace of mind
Last November, one of my readers, Bryn, was faced with the challenge of choosing a birthday present for her man. Since he’s been hers for a long time, she tried most of the possible gift categories on him before. What would make him truly happy?
She thought of all the little to-do’s, house annoyances, tasks and errands that pile up and nag him every time they come to mind. She decided to make a list of all those things — and do them. Thereby giving him: Peace Of Mind.
Wonderful! See all the images here.

Fiat Planters
Fiat and designer Fabio Novembre have installed 20 life-size fiberglass replicas of the automaker’s 500 C compact car in Milan each with a tree planted inside. The cars are parked along the Montenapoleone, Milan’s epicenter for fashion and jewelry.

Patience

How incredibly powerful is this Power To The Poster series by Micah Max? I certainly would tear off a few of the patience ones, hoping it would rub off on me.

Fluent
One of my loyal CreativeMornings attendees, Matt Convente, pointed me to the t-shirts above t-shirts he designed. They made me chuckle. Matt is a recent graphic design graduate, obviously incredibly talented and in search of a job. Consider hiring him, maybe?
Design Pricing Formula
David Airey has an interesting post about the much talked and agonized about topic on how much should design cost. He came up with a Design Pricing Formula.
He also lists a few interesting links to articles about Design Pricing:

The Heads of State
The Heads of State (Jason is one of our former studio mates and we miss him dearly) just posted some new work to their site. My favorite is the hypothetical marijuana packaging for Print Magazine. Made me smile.

The last year of Polaroid film
Grant Hamilton posted a teaser for his upcoming Polaroid Documentary called TIME ZERO: the last year of Polaroid film. Wonderful.

Philippe Malouin designed this child’s chair turned single bed called Tent Sofa. I agree with MinorDetails, it’s a great solution for sleepovers and playtime.
Squirrel in Focus
This made me laugh:
Melissa Brandts wasn’t trying to take a photo of this ground squirrel at Banff National Park. She’d set up the camera’s timer so that she’d have a nice picture of herself and her husband, with spectacular Lake Minnewanka in the background. She hadn’t counted on this ground squirrel hogging the foreground.Photo by Melissa Brandt, from the Your Shot Daily Dozen at National Geographic magazine

Fire Design Fire Extinguishers
Look, cool type on a fire extinguisher. What’s not to like? So far they are only being sold in two stores in Paris: Cadeau Store and Boutique Fire. Let’s hope they make it across the Atlantic soon.

Rain Rain Go Away

Very lovely nursery rhyme print. I should have bought this in June!
Buy a t-shirt and plant 20 trees

Does your t-shirt lower your carbon footprint and improve air quality and reduce your utility bill? This t-shirt does. This shirt is part of the Holiday Matinee Artist Series, which means they donate 100% of proceeds from every t-shirt sold to Plant-It 2020. That means every time you buy a shirt you plant, maintain, and protect twenty trees. It’s that simple, plus all shirts are tag-free and 100% organic. How’s that for a designy do-good-feel-good gift?
About the artist: Nikki Farquharson is a left-handed designer living in London, England. She’s obsessed with letters, lines, patterns, shapes and colors. For this project, Nikki wrote a poem where every word ends in the same sound of Holiday Matinee.
Tree of Charge
Tree of Charge: While the cell phone, digital camera and mp3 player charge their batteries under the tree, the bothersome main adapters are hidden inside. The tree functions as a key rack and magnet board. and with the photos of your loved ones, it becomes a family tree. Made me smile.
Baby in Table

This ingenious table is the subject of my latest post over at Nesting, Cookie Magazine’s blog, where I am a contributor: Baby in Table! Now that baby #2 is on the way, this table seems perfect! And the fact that the chair doubles as a step stool is simply brilliant.
