I put my Google Voice # on my business card and get my calls forwarded to my iPhone (which is the only phone line I can afford now - no separate business phone yet!). Now I can easily ignore calls from Google Voice after business hours, and I get emails of the the recorded voicemails (which are great when I'm in a building that gets no reception).

As the world shifts towards a Search=Gold model, it seems to make sense for Google (the search-gurus) to try and get people to conduct as much of their digital life as possible on their platform. But imho it's a little concerning to have one company with so much responsibility for so much. First it was just Internet content, now it's email, documents, video, music, books, voice, phone calls, etc. i wonder if Google has had any meetings with the DOD lately?

Funny enough this has always been possible with Google voice to my knowledge (since it was GrandCentral). They're just rolling it out as a new feature (which makes sense). All you're doing is forwarding your calls that go to voicemail to your Google Voice number instead of the voicemail number your carrier currently uses.

Maybe it's just me (or the fact that I already have visual voicemail with my iPhone), but this seems like another service that will waste my time, ironically as it attempts to organize my life. Same with Google Wave. There are only so many hours in a day, and eventually (and likely already now) people are going to have to prioritize what extra services they subscribe to and actively check. The whole Google-anything craze is no different than Apple fan-boy status, and I guess I'm outside the crowd that worships literally anything that comes from Google or Apple.
