A Floating Pool In New York

We desperately need one of these Floating Pools outside our studio.

+ Pool is an initiative by a group of architects and designers to build a floating pool in the rivers of New York City… and they need your help. The project was launched with the ambition to improve the use of the city’s natural resources by providing a clean and safe way for the public to swim in New York’s waters. This site is the culmination of Concept Design for + Pool and they are looking to build a team of interested organizations and professionals to continue the development of the project into a buildable proposal.

Their next step is to partner with local cultural, developmental and environmental groups to raise public and private interest, identify civic potential and approach the municipality, while working with engineers, planners and specialists to refine the social and ecological performance of + Pool.

  1. That’s a great idea actually, I hope it works out!

  2. We have one of them in the middle of Manchester at the moment (6 steady hours of heavy rain).

  3. Oh I’d love to have one here! I miss the Badeschiff in Berlin!!

  4. First of, it’s in New Jersey LOOKING at New York, who wants to go to damn Jersey? Get it right at least. The first clue is the bridge.

  5. They have a smaller floating pool up the Hudson in Beacon:

  6. @James

The first clue is the bridge thats the Brooklyn Bridge. Making the pool in Brooklyn. If your going to be a pretentious New Yorker at least know your city. Also if you bother to read there website you would see that they listed all the locations and none of them are in Jersey. One location was Brooklyn Bridge Park surprise surprise. What New Yorker doesn’t recognize the Brooklyn Bridge you must be from Jersey.

  7. Why couldn’t you just swim in the river? You once showed a video about the Aare in Bern and wrote you wished to swim in the Hudson. Why would it need such a pool? (Sorry, never been to NY)

  8. Don’t get me wrong the East River AND Hudson are dirty but come on! They should just open a beach there and offer showers. I would love to swim off of BK w/o going to Coney Island!

  9. I love how they show it with only a handful of people instead of the packed crowds it would like draw.

  10. I visited the link and find it all rather fascinating! :D

Yes, it not doubt looks much prettier with a few tasteful looking people than one million screaming children, ha ha … great observation.

But they don’t want to ruin their pretty little models with ‘reality’ now do they ;) ha ha
