Divvy

Divvy let’s you manage your desktop windows (both on Windows and Mac). It allows you to quickly and efficiently “divvy up” your screen into exact portions. This lets you take maximum advantage of your screen real estate without any hassle at all.

  1. While this can be useful and looks like it’s well executed, it seems like an overkill on most occasions. For a simpler, less extensive tool with similar usage for OS X, check out Cinch [1] for drag & drop, and SizeUp [2] for the same functionality but with shortcuts.

    Cinch and SizeUp allow you to use the whole screen, half the screen or (only with SizeUp) 1/4 of the screen, but for me that’s enough in 99% of usecases. The same functionality as in those two apps is already included in Win7, so there you don’t need it anyway.

    Plus, I really like the drag&drop functionality of Cinch.

  2. I have to second a recomendation for Cinch. I bought a license and use it all the time. Really nice time saver, especially if you need two windows open at once, but don’t want to fiddle with getting the sized right.

  4. I preferred Hyperdock over Cinch for it also allows you to preview a opened document before using the app and adds controls for the preview of itunes and vlc. It also allows me to drag a app to a corner and choose how I want it to fit on the screen.

    For OS X, it is the best. Way more presets you can make with keyboard, mouse, and trackpad settings.

    The developer continues to do an insane amount of work.
