Minimal WordPress Themes

Earlier today I asked my Twitter Followers if they knew of any hidden gems for minimal, clean WordPress Themes. Here are some of the responses I got so far:

pagelines.com (thank you Bianca)

themezilla.com (thank you Anna)

wpshower.com (thank you Chesley)

thethemefoundry.com (thank you @3thriftyguys)

themecobra.com (thanks Rob)

madebyraygun.com (thank you Dave)

themefurnace.com (Thank you Justin)

manifest (thank you WITphotography)

dessign.net (thank you Marios)

standardtheme.com (thank you Joel)

Thanks for everyone that chimed in. And feel free to leave more suggestions in a comment below. I will pick the best ones and suggest them to my friend who is looking to start a blog!

  1. Checkout http://graphpaperpress.com – they have an assortment of great minimal themes, especially for portfolio sites but they are all flexible enough to use for text-focused sites. I’ve used their themes for a few projects and loved every one.

  2. You should check http://plaintxt.org , the first WordPress site devoted to minimalism. It has the famous Sandbox Theme that will allow you to develop a minimalist theme of your own.

Scott Wallick was an inspiration for many designers at the time, his themes are clean and elegant.

  3. If you want really minimal (rather than designer minimal) I built Adam’s Razor http://adamlofting.com/adams-razor but it’s a somewhat brutalist approach to functional design.

  4. Definitely check out Underscores!

  5. let me know if you need any more thoughts about Standard Theme… i’m part of that team and would love to let you give it a whirl.

    Heck, why not.

  6. Greg Ponchak’s horizontal and vertical wordpress themes:

  7. Here’s one created by Leo Babauta for his zenhabits.net
He’s giving it free of charge. Cant get more minimal than that ;)

  8. Or, if you wanna go *extremely* minimalist…

“Dogma” is based on Leo Babauta’s theme but all the ground rules of the minimalist web design ‘dogma’ applied –

  15. Canvas by woothemes.com (http://www.woothemes.com/2012/06/canvas/) is a great bare bones theme that can be as minimal (or complex) as you want!

  16. These are great, and sorry to slightly hi-jack this post, but I love this tumblr theme by Marc Kremers

    http://bloodsweatand11years.tumblr.com

  23. Magnificent goods from you, man. I have consider your stuff previous to and you are simply extremely fantastic. I really like what you have bought right here, certainly like what you are saying and the best way wherein you are saying it. You make it entertaining and you continue to care for to stay it sensible. I can’t wait to learn far more from you. This is really a terrific web site.

  24. Yep you read that correct Friday the 13th, as if this day
doesn’t have any conspiracies in itself. You should not rely on calcium supplements alone for
your total calcium requirements. Bob believes that he and Robbie were
in a car wreck in Japan that caused Robbie to loose her left
    foot.

  25. Good article. I certainjly appreciate this website. Continue the good work!

  26. I think what you said was very reasonable.
But, think on this, what if you were to create a killer post title?
I am not suggesting your information isn’t good., however what if you added something that grabbed
people’s attention? I mean swissmiss | Minimal WordPress
Themes is a little boring. You could look at Yahoo’s front
page and see how they create post titles to grab
people to open the links. You might add a video or a pic or two to get readers interested about what you’ve got to
say. In my opinion, it could make your posts a little bit more interesting.
