Songs That Make You Dance

Impromptu dance parties are happening more frequently at casa swissmiss these days, with disco light and all. And I find myself constantly looking for new songs to add to my playlist.

What’s *the* song that will get you off your feet and onto the dance floor? Let’s start a YouTube-Link-Comment thread? YES?

Happy weekend!

  1. Impromptu dance parties happening round here at all hours of the day and night. I don’t want to hog your thread but I have three suggestions. They are not necessarily my most favorite dance songs but the best post bombogenesis booty warmers I can think of off the top if my head. First up some serious shake and swing sounds: Airto Moreira and Celebration Suite:

  2. And for those times when you just want to groove along, you can’t beat classic Chaka Khan (& Rufus)

  3. Great 90s song in French, the beat is good though

  4. ‘The Love Club’ always gets me bouncing these days.

  5. i have always danced to the dandy warhols’ “bohemian like you” (disclaimer: i cannot check if this is the right video because GEMA won’t let me see it):

then there is “rocks ” by primal scream (GEMA, i love you… not):

and OK go’s “a million ways”:

if anyone knows a good work-around to be able to watch all videos on youtube from within germany, let me know… i cannot watch any of the videos i’d love to dance to.

  6. Got to give it up.

Quick side note: I worked on a wedding for MSW in which the song/dance-obsessed grooms were getting married on Sept. 21. This was *the* song for their wedding with details highlighting the lyrics, etc. Such a great memory—the event team danced post-party to this song on repeat—certainly I will remember the twenty-first of September : )

Kings of Convenience – I’d Rather Dance With You

Elevenses is a traditional ‘tea and snack break’ in the UK, but here it is reinvented as a dance break! This isn’t updated all the time, but when it’s a particularly killer week, Elevenses Dance Party kicks in with daily updates. Here’s the Tumblr description:

Elevenses Dance Party is a work break hip shake. Come dance with us!
Every weekday at ll am BST/GMT, there will be a new track – usually Motown/Funk/Soul/Calypso/Twotone/Dance – with the video length posted so you know how long you’ll be stepping away from your work.
