I am professional photographer doing mainly corporate work. I often take portraits of every day folks in work environments. I get the exact same reactions when I tell people they look great in a shot.
No matter what age, people seem to be quick to point what they perceive as their own flaws.
I am guessing it’s the difference between them seeing an idealized version of what a human being should look like in the eye of the media after a retoucher spent hours fiddling with it and what they the have seen for the past 15 to 40 year in a mirror.
