You missed my favorite: The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. It’s about a princess who volunteers to work for a dragon. The main character is definitely not a damsel in distress! When she does marry a king, the king doesn’t ride to her rescue; they join forces more than anything. The other female characters are also strong, in their own ways (Morwin being a favorite). I’m male, and that series in part set the standard for what I wanted in a woman: strong, independent, intelligent, someone who doesn’t need me but rather wants to be with me. My sisters definitely found the character inspiring.
