In september of 2010 I discovered iPhone Doc Dr.Brendan. After a quick email exchange and a description of my ‘patient’ we met up in a hotel lobby in Manhattan. 20 minutes later my iphone looked like new. Impressed by his story I wrote a post about him, which apparently sent a lot of new customers his way. Yay! Well deserved!

I luckily didn’t need Dr.Brendan’s services since, until 2 weeks ago, when my husband dropped his new iPhone 4s in water. Outch! I emailed Dr.Brendan and an hour later, Tony, one of his employees was in our living-room, trying to ‘revive Siri’. But there was no heartbeat! He took “Siri” with him and a few days later, we got a call with good news: Siri was alive and kicking! YAY!

During the short visit at our apartment, I learned that Dr.Brendan since has moved his business out of his living-room and opened two stores. And not only that, he has a whole army employees and they now also fix Macs. I was thrilled to hear that as my 2.5 year old iMac at work was giving me a hard time. Tony, a Dr.Brendan employee, came to promptly pick it up the next day and conveniently brought it back a few days later, fixed. Pick-up and drop-off? Yes, please!

Dr.Brendan and his team not only fix iPhones but now also repair pretty much any Apple device, do data recovery, help you set up your network and much more.

I can’t praise Brendan and his team enough. Go check out his site. And if you live either in the East Village or Park Slope, drop by their shop. And no worries, if you don’t live in NYC, you can ship your patient to Dr.Brendan.

Yay for this wonderful entrepreneurial story.

Wallee Headrest Mount for the car made me look. Our iPad usually saves long car rides but I oftentimes end up holding it awkwardly between me and my husband on the armrest. Well, Wallee might save the day. Has anyone of you tried it? Kiddo approved?

This iPad case geared towards children made me look. I like the fact that the Speck iPad Guy has handles for the kids to grab onto. Anyone tried it?

OLO is a super minimal touch-screen game that made me look. It is an experiment using latest features of CSS3 and HTML5. OLO has been developed for iPad & iPhone by Sennep, a London based interactive design studio.

I just downloaded William Joyce’s “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”, an interactive narrative experience for the iPad. The app impressively blurs the line between picture books and animated film. I kept flipping pages in sheer amazement. If only I could look at it with the eyes of a kid. Magical!

I just got a good chuckle out of this iphone app called AntiMosquito Fumigator. The app claims to keep mosquitos away as long as you keep it running in the background. It emits a high-pitched sound that humans don’t hear but mosquitos do and not appreciate. I’ll gladly give it a try this coming weekend, but I admit, I am not too hopeful.

I was sent one of these Genius MousePen Multimedia Tablets and since I am not a tablet user, I gave it to my studiomate Erica. We were just talking about it and she said she would totally recommend it if you’re someone that takes your tablet on the road. It’s wireless, and quite lightweight. There are two buttons on the pen, which you can set to right-click and toggle screens, as well as a row of shortcut buttons on the tablet. Favorite part: the pen stores in the top of the tablet for travel.

(I keep trying tablets and, believe it or not, I get ‘seasick’ using them. Silly, yes.)

Until June 3rd you can fund the Oona Kickstarter project for $25 and they will send you an Oona once production has begun. After the fund date an Oona can be purchased for $30. (I absolutely love the idea of putting the iphone on a rotating eggtimer to take panorama shots.)

I am super excited aboutJoey Roth visiting Studiomates today. I remember two years ago when Joey first mentioned his idea of a felt computer mouse. And today he brought in his first prototype. It adds such a wonderfully surprising tactile feel to the world of computers. Joey’s plan is that it will be wireless and that you’ll be able to put the entire mouse in the washing machine, if a cleaning becomes necessary. Talk about rethinking an existing product.

It’s people like Joey that I admire! A young entrepreneur with a vision and drive. You’ve seen his ceramic speakers and his teapot, right?

Every now and then I come across gadget accessories that takes my breath away. It just happened now when I discovered the Miniot Wooden iPad2 Cover. The companies about page put a huge smile on my face. All it shows is a “Team Photo” (below). How can you not buy a product from what looks to be a Dutch family enterprise? The simplicity with which it folds is impressive. Its powerful electric motor and latest generation lithium battery allow you to cover over 18 miles on a single charge. Effortlessly.

They called the product Voltitude — a fusion of Volt and Attitude — because, as they say, time has come to change our attitude towards urban mobility and because electric technology is now mature enough to enable us to do it.

Needless to say I’d love a Voltitude for here in Brooklyn.
