If you live somewhat nearby NYC, consider taking a day trip to Storm King Sculpture Park. Now is the perfect time as the leaves are changing. Family Eisenberg ventured up there yesterday and boy, did we come home with big smiles on our faces. Little Miss Ella seemed to be mesmerized by the Calder sculptures. In fact, she expressed the desire to own a Calder Mobile in her room. (hmm… where does she have that
from, I wonder?)

Windowzoo is a swiss streetart project and brainchild of Till Bay, a software architect living in Zurich. He helps to develop the zoo from dusk till dawn and was there when the first birds were set free. Check out the image-gallery of freed birds. One of my favorite new blogs called “Happy Mundane” (excellent name!) just featured a book that i GOTTA HAVE! It’s called it’s a stamp world by Petit Grand Publishing! Jon from “Happy Mundane” posted a youtube movie of him flipping through the book. (If only the image quality was better)

This is the kind of art that gets me really excited! Check out Fred Eerdekens’s smart and surprising pieces. It reminds me of swiss artist Markus Raetz’s, who’s work I’ve seen years ago in Geneva, Switzerland.

50th and South Shore Drive. The 50th had 301 lines, and was touted as the “Mid-west’s largest and most luxurious.” I have no doubt they dispatched agents throughout the land on a monthly basis to ensure the validity of the claim. Dig those light fixtures – an example in the lower right-hand corner looks like Fiestaware stacked on an ice cream cone. Nice sign. It seems you could reach it from the diving board, too. Do they still have tall diving boards with steeply-raked steps at motel swimming pools anymore? I doubt it; motel pool-diving, like bowling, seems to be one of those middle-class pastimes no longer in vogue. The motel also provided gender-specific enclosures where self-conscious bathers could squat and observe the gaiety.

second hand stories
G and I spent our weekend in Syracuse. At the Everson Museum of Art we got to enjoy an excellent documentary called Second Hand Stories: It’s a documentary about two guys (Christopher Wilcha And John Freyer) and an ambulance on a mission to thrift through america! On their trip across the US they buy and sell unusual objects and discover fascinating tales of contemporary America.

One of the first pages on posters on the internet, this site has been running continuously since August 21, 1997. The page was initially planned to show posters from Rene Wanner’s collection to the public, but the site quickly transformed into an international newsletter that is read by graphic designers, students, museum people, poster dealers and fellow collectors in 90 countries, and reports on all kinds of poster activities that come to his attention. Rene, a swiss fellow, living in Basel, Switzerland, has a PhD in experimental physics and his professional career had nothing to do with graphic design at all. The story of his life as poster collector is the subject of his first web poster exhibition, which also shows the type of works that he collects.
