I finally had a chance to see Helvetica, the movie. I absolutely loved it. My favorite part was when Lars Mueller walked Gary and his team through the streets of London (?) pointing at helvetica sightings. I agree with his statement that “Helvetica is the perfume of the city!”
Erik Spiekermann was priceless. His comments made me laugh out loud.
Hat tip to Gary Hustwit and his team. He was at the screening and answered questions. What a warm, funny, down to earth guy. Refreshing to see that he managed to stay so humble, considering the amazing and well-deserved success of his documentary!
I had such a big smile throughout the entire movie… funny, inspiring, totally engaging, and definitely one of the top-10 of the year. AND I got a free set of I love Helvetica / I hate Helvetica pins at my screening!

Can’t wait for my preordered DVD. Too bad I couldn’t be at the screenings around Germany

I was privileged enough to see one of the first screenings here in the States this past April at Yale. It really is an amazing film. Even my husband, who had no real desire to see the film, ended up enjoying it nearly as much as I did.
We had Gary Hustwit, Matthew Carter, Michael Beirut and Tobias Frere-Jones at our Q&A session. Being the design student that I am, I was humbled to be in the presence of such greatness.
It was an evening that I won’t soon forget.

I went to see it on Thursday, unfortunately one of the few days there wasn’t someone there for Q&A after. I agree, Lars Müller pointing to the signs was my favorite part as well, I posted on my blog about some of my other favorite parts. (you can click my name to see it)

I saw this last thursday night- it was excellent!
We had Hustwit and Michael Bierut at our screening (DC at the Corcoran). I thought Bierut had some of the funniest lines- “Coke, PERIOD. Nothing like the real thing. PERIOD. Helvetica PERIOD”
