Question for my readers:

Do you know where I can view some of the original 1971 Big Apple Tourism Campaign posters here in the city?

A 1971 campaign to increase tourism to New York City adopted the Big Apple as an officially recognized reference to New York City. The campaign featured red apples in an effort to lure visitors to New York City. It was hoped that the red apples would serve as a bright and cheery image of New York City, in contrast to the common belief that New York City was dark and dangerous. Since then, New York City has officially been The Big Apple.

Why is New York City called the “Big Apple”?

    good luck in your search

  2. Probably won’t be there, but there’s a garage on the upper east side. 81st or 82nd, on the north side of the street, between first and second that has an awesome postered wall as you drive in. Hmmm. I’ll look nextime for the apple. It has HUGE promo posters and bills from the sixties and seventies I think… anyway, if you’re in that neck of the woods…

  3. I first thought of Milton Glaser and the I heart NY campaign.

Which is a bit behind the times but I did remember an article called I sell NY in the Gotham.

I saw you on the sf.unterwegs program, and the I saw that beautiful poster you gave Andrea as a gift! How I would L-O-V-E to get one of those posters!!!! Can you help a “Heimweh NewYorkerin”??? Where can I get one of those posters?
    Thanks and take care,
    Ellen
