If the crease pointed down it would be just as useful but then allow for bigger items to straddle it. Like, say, a book.
Poor design really.
Well no, it’s clearly not made for books (as normally stored on a book shelf); it for presenting / showing things or covers (of books). Nicely done.

I like the axis clock, too. Neat idea. Would love to see it with different wood to chose from. Wouldn’t fit as shown at our place though.
