synopsis:
Conquerors of the Useless follows Jeff Johnson as he retraces the epic 1968 journey of his heroes Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia. Along the way he gets shipwrecked off Easter Island, surfs the longest wave of his life – and prepares himself for a rare ascent of Cerro Corcovado. Jeff’s life turns when he meets up in a rainy hut with Chouinard and Tompkins who, once driven purely by a love of climbing and surfing, now value above all the experience of raw nature – and have come to Patagonia to spend their fortunes to protect it.

Ditto on 180 South. One of my favorite documentaries in a long while and really turned me onto Yvon and Patagonia. Well worth the watch.

Let My People Go Surfing is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It really struck a chord with me and although I am still unfortunately working for a company that does not share my ethics (my financial situation is improving but I am still a bit shaky), I am currently working towards my goal of being self-employed. And when I am, I plan to follow much of Yvon’s advice.

Although I think letting people go surfing in work time seems like a lovely idea, I am not sure it would pass a Risk Assessment!

I think he is a visionary ahead of his time & I think many people need to watch, listen learn. It takes a commitment to yourself to make a change in the world!
