Tall Chess is a beautifully designed Chess Game for the iPhone by the fine folks of Friends Of The Web. Unlike other chess apps, Tall Chess uses the entire screen of the device to present the game board, keeping the focus on the game, not extraneous and unnecessary interface elements. You can challenge your friends or an auto-match opponent via Game Center and if you’re a complete chess nerd you might be happy to know that you can export your games in algebraic notation.
Go download Tall Chess for free on the App Store, and challenge your friends!
I played a few games with this app, and while the game flow works really well, and the piece designs look great, the non square tiles of the game board is a huge problem during gameplay. The issue is kinda difficult to explain, and may be limited to just me, but it was distracting enough for me to stop using the app.

As a disclaimer, I’m on the team that developed Tall Chess as an iOS software engineer.
To Jeffrey’s point: we were initially concerned about issues related to the non-square game tiles, as were many of our beta testers (especially some of the bigger chess nerds). However, every single one of us eventually came to like the “tall” board squares. Give it a shot for a little while, Jeffrey!
