I saw this Carbonator by Aarke at a recent tradeshow and gasped. It’s a thing of beauty. Definitely an upgrade to the plastic-y Sodastream. I would totally give it a home.

Love this one, but it’s way beyond my budget for a carbonator, so I found one with a more interesting design than Sodastream: AWA Carbonator (drinkawa.com).

You’ll then have that nice stainless steel carbonator in the kitchen and fugly plastic bottles on the table, because law requires that glass bottles have a protective shield when they are carbonated … bummer.
