I spent years coveting these chairs. My wife got me one in walnut a couple of birthdays ago, and I’m still happy to see it or sit in it whenever I do either. I’ve sat in a version of the ‘potato chip’ knock off – a very different experience as it stretched the lounger into a dinning chair. The proportions of the seat and the ergonomics of the back on the real deal are unexpectedly generous and comfortable given the materials.
These chairs are nice! Solid plywood construction yet the hold the body quite comfortably!
BTW other retailers are honoring this Herman Miller sponsored sale. At my “Room and Board” visit last week I noticed they were offering the 10% off too on all ‘Modern Classics’! Noguchi Table Anyone?
We have loads of these at our office. Ken knows a guy who bought an entire lot of old Eames chairs from a school (!). The guy refinishes them and sells ’em to Ken for $150 each. I’ve been begging Ken to hook me up…
I am lucky enough to live close to a DWR warehouse that has had a few clearance sales. I’ve managed to pick up two LCW (one at each sale) in walnut. 379$ each, undamaged. -Sorry to brag.
If you receive the DWR newsletter, they inform you of the sales ahead of time. There is also one in Secaucus for all you NYC hipsters. This is the only way these items begin to approach “within reach”.
