no, you can’t kick the seat in front of you…

Are you going to take your toddler on a plane for the first time? This ‘Shae by Air’ DVD might come in handy:

The I’m A Good Little Traveler! DVD Toolkit Series: Shae by Air: An engaging story that prepares children for traveling on an airplane, Shae by Air details the JOURNEY, not the destination. Made by a parent, and told from a young child’s perspective, Shae by Air is a fun, educational way to prepare young children for the long lines and the security checkpoint (removing shoes and coats, walking through the beeping metal detector), the ear popping that accompanies takeoff and landing, as well as how to entertain and behave themselves while flying (no kicking the seats!). Your child will want to be a Good Little Traveler, just like Shae! Designed and filmed with the input of child behavior specialists, the premise of each of the DVD Toolkits is that children, even small ones, have the capacity to understand what to expect and what is expected of them, and with that the ability to be respectful good little travelers. The Toolkits are FOR CHILDREN (ages 2-6).

I haven’t seen it myself, just found it over at amazon and it made me look. Have you watched it? What’s your opinion?

  1. Hmmm…I think I’m going to order a couple dozen of these and put a couple in my carry on bag each trip I take. I wanted to smack the kid sitting behind me on my last flight who was kicking the seat. Maybe I should hand a copy to the parents too!

  2. yes, yes… please share reviews if you own this DVD. We are planning a trip that we’ll have to endure 14 hours with my 3 1/2 yr old.

  3. I can’t recommend this DVD enough. I gave it to my sister when she and my brother-in-law were planning their first big vacation with my twin nieces (NYC to Greece, lucky little girls!). My nieces watched the DVD repeatedly before their trip, and really seemed to identify with/admire Shae. My sister said that throughout the flight the girls mentioned Shae when they wanted to do something, as in, “I’m going to get my snack out now, like Shae does.” Now I give this DVD as a gift regularly to friends as their kids reach toddler age.

  4. i think the airlines should send this to every adult who buys a ticket for a child. i know it can be a challenge for some children to sit still for a flight, but all too often the parent doesn’t even *try* to make the child behave. we have traveled with our children since they were infants. never have they caused a problem on a plane. we would take our seats, we would get the eye rolling from the other passengers. at the end of the flight, we frequently hear, “those children were so quiet! we didn’t even notice them.” is this because i have exceptional children? no, it is because we prepared them beforehand about what would happen and we *expected* in terms of behavior. we also stocked our carry on with things for them to do.

  5. The Shae By Air DVD toolkit is one of a kind and highly recommended! Preparation (of both parent and child) is the key to sanity and yes-even enjoyment- on a flight. Shae By Air was produced professionally and is perfect for the developmental stage of young children.

The best thing I like about this toolkit is that it gives children the visual preparation needed and Shae models the good behavior that these toddlers can mimic on their trip.

Don’t hesitate to purchase this – and it is a great baby shower gift or birthday gift!
