Life Changes, With a Latte to Go

Here’s an interesting New York Times Article about a former advertising executive, who lost his job and now happily works at a Starbucks. He’s written a book, “How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns to Live Like Everyone Else,” that has been optioned by Tom Hanks, though he claims he still wants to work at Starbucks, even as potential riches flow in.

  1. I had a busy job, then stopped work for a couple of years to have kids. When I went back to work, it was as a barista in a coffee shop (not Starbucks, but similar). It was, and still is, the most fun I ever had at work. And making good coffee for appreciative customers was simply a joy. I know that sounds kooky but don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it. I’m back in the ‘corporate world’ but every day when I get my coffee I chat with the barista and wish I could trade places.

  2. We know one person who traded a Biopharma job for Starbucks and I thought he had the RIGHT IDEA!
I have told my husband for years that working at a coffee joint is what I want to do! I used to teach. I think I would make more at Starbucks then teaching!
