hanabi lamp

Hanabi (fireworks party) is the name of this beautiful lamp, by japanese designer Endo. Closed when cold, and with petals opened when it becomes hotter due to the light bulb’s temperature. A lovely and original idea.

  1. That is genius! And what a perfect name, hanabi.

  2. My question: if it uses heat to cause the pedals to open, what happens when you use a more environmentally-friendly compact florescent? Will it not work properly with such a bulb, since they put off so much less heat than a standard bulb? That would be a shame, because beautiful design like this should be sustainable as well. Other than that, fantastic idea…
