Where you put your time and attention says a lot about who you are

Where you put your time and attention says a lot about who you are. It says a lot about you as a human being. You have some idea in your head of all the stuff that is high priority to you. All the stuff that really matters. If I sat down and asked you what’s really important to you – you would say ‘oh my family and my church group and I’m a deacon.’ But then I go and I look in your email box, newsfeeds and web browser… If I went and got all CSI on that, what would the last two weeks of your electronic life say about how it maps to the stuff that you claim is really important?

  1. This has been on my mind of late. Thank you for caring enough to post this. I think mine would suggest a certain materialistic trend. My priority is my desire to serve God, but I admittaedly need to consider a recalibrate. Again, thanks Tina.

  2. Otherwise put:
“We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”
    Aristotle

  3. I’m not sure the amount of time you spend on something is a clear indication of your priorities. I mean, most of us spend a lot of time in the bathroom, but not because that is some deep spiritual priority for us, it’s just necessary.

Work is the same way. We just have to do a lot of it to eat. Do I love God more than my job? Sure. How do I act on that? Taking this to the ultimate conclusion, I should quit my job and live like Francis of Assisi.
