“The three C’s of leadership are consideration, caring, and courtesy. Be polite to everyone.”
— Brian Tracy
(via this collection of leadership quotes)
I prefer a statement that includes actions a leader can take. This I like the statement of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz of WWII fame – “Leadership is picking good men and helping them to do their best”.
Helping is the key, not directing and controlling as is the norm in business today. People don’t like being told what to do and some hate it. But people love and greatly appreciate being helped and if it is really well done they respond by enthusiastically throwing everything they have at their work. It certainly worked for me.
