on panel discussions

Funny, I was just expressing my frustration with panel discussions earlier today and just came across Michael Karnjanaprakorn’s post on ‘why do you hate conferences’? (Granted, he’s currently organizing one himself!)

I haven’t been to any panel discussions that added any value, were informative or useful. It’s just a bunch of people having a big ego-fest or one guy dominating all of the speaking to prove that he is the smartest one in the room.

Why do you hate conferences? (I think ‘hate’ might be a little strong here…)

  1. I don’t know if I *hate* them, but I can’t stand the people who dominate question time with comments or inane trivia or personal anecdotes, which, remarkably, are not questions!

There are a lot of egos to cope with. My friend took super cute Moo cards to her last conference as an attempt to be different – no one understood! Arty? At a conference?! Never!

  2. Nice article
