I gotta say I am with you on this – personally I find it much easier to splurge on small things like this. I personally love the Joseph Joseph kitchen things ( http://www.josephjoseph.com/ ) and the Ole series by Royal copenhagen ( http://www.royalcopenhagen.com/shop/shop-series/1/dinnerware/13/ole/ ) because they are gorgeous, even though they are probably a bit too expensive.
