Stories We Tell

I am incredibly fascinated by the premise of The Stories We Tell. Ella, 7, has recently started to ask me questions about my parents. A lot of them, I can simply not answer. And after speaking with my sister, I realize that we both remember our parents quite differently. While I believe that all that Instagramm-ing and Facebook-ing will change how much *my* kids remember of me, as they have a documented trail of things I’ve done and said, there will still be lots of pages missing.

Stories We Tell is a film that excavates layers of myth and memory to find the elusive truth at the core of a family of storytellers. On my list of #must-see-movies.

  1. I saw this a few months ago. It was fantastic!

  2. I want to see that too. And I’m always amazed at how children who grow up in the same home with the same parents can interpret and remember and experience those parents so incredibly differently.

  3. It’s really a fantastic movie – my personal favorite from the Munich film festival some weeks ago!

  4. I saw it in London a couple of weeks ago – it was lovely!

I was in this tiny alternative cinema all on my own (during a business trip) and was a bit comprehensive about seeing a documentary, being on my own etc. But I got so much into the movie I didn’t realize how time flew!

Definitely something I’d watch again. So touching and beautiful and interesting – I never realised there could be so many angles to the same story!
