I have two favourite gifts. One is my cat, given to me by an ex-boyfriend. She is the gift that keeps giving, 13 years later :)
The other is a jade carving, made by another ex. It’s beautiful in its own right but when I received it I made a point of visiting my parents that day to show them, and that night my father unexpectedly died. It was an incredible gift to have seen him that very day when otherwise I wouldn’t have, so holds special power to me because of that.

The sewing machine (Bernina!) my parents gave me for my 20th birthday (I asked for it). More than 20 years later it is still very, very useful and in excellent shape.
