anyone remember gummitwist

During my trip to switzerland this summer I bought a gummitwist. My sister and I tried to explain the rules, or what we remembered of it, to G. He just looked at us in disbelief. Can’t wait to show Ella, once she’s old enough….

Here’s a good resource I just found that explains the “Zehner“, in german.

  1. i think it’s the same thing as what we used to call a chinese jumprope…

  2. Of course I do remember! I had to play that with my cousin and her friends when I was a child… obviously I was just “the puppet” to hold the elastic band… :-)

  3. I was also going to comment that it is the Chinese jumprope that we used when I was in elementary school. I played on that through many lunch hours!

  4. Yup SOO remember playing hours and hours and hours… this was before Wii Fit.. ;-)
I tried to play with my now 14 year old about 4-5 years ago and it just didn’t take….

  5. Yep – also called elastique. It was like a cross between jump rope and limbo – but for some reason it also made me think of jacks. It would make a goood wiifit game actually…

  6. cooool! jahre nicht mehr gesehen und gespielt, ich muss mir unbedingt ein solches teil kaufen! thanx tina!

  8. Fantastic!
We used to play hours with all my friends (all girls in the age renge 4/12), the boys didn’t like it as the “elastico” as we called it was a Girl Thing to them, diminishing their macho self perception.
The turns to play and not to hold it became constantly excuses to argue… Rules were useful until a certain point, then the oldest or the most influent decided.
Wanna go and buy one piece, me too, before all of my girls feel too old to play it!
    Thank you for reminding me!

  9. thanks for the reminder :) – I´ve played it for hours with my sister and friends as a kid:) I guess that when you start jumping your body will start to remember the rules?
