CreativeMornings in Zurich, Switzerland

CreativeMornings is crossing the Atlantic and will take place in Zurich, Switzerland on July 9th 2010, from 8.30am-10am in the courtyard of the Swiss National Museum. (picture below)

Rolf Hiltl will be our July speaker.

In Europe the name Hiltl is well-known for the famous vegetarian restaurant located in the heart of Zurich.

The original restaurant opened 112 years ago (!) and is considered a gastronomic highlight in Zurich. Representing the fourth generation, 45-year-old Rolf Hiltl took over the family business in 1998, exactly 100 years after Europe’s first vegetarian restaurant was founded. Rolf Hiltl admits that his approach on running the business has always been both American and Swiss. He works on the trial and error principle: try something out and then improve on it.

Today the Hiltl brand includes a cooking studio, cook books, a bar, a club, take-away outlets and a catering business. Rolf Hiltl is also co-owner of tibits with 4 restaurants in Switzerland and one outlet in London.

  1. Darn, A month later I’d be in Zurich for a holiday – visiting the olde motherland :)

  2. Hiltl is an amazing restaurant, the last time I was there I had an amazing rõsti topped with assorted mushrooms, along with their visually stunning Vitamin juice/drink. My omnivorous dining companion enjoyed it as well. Definitely worth a stop in. En plus, I love Zurich and wish I could attend.

  3. Fröie mi sehr! // Looking foreward to this!

  9. @ A – Swiss German otherwise known as Schöggi Düüütsch
    [pron. shawkee dootsch]

@ nista – Besides Hilti there’s Tibits a spin off Hiltl that you can find in Bern & Basel as well. Also Bona Dea at the Hauptbahnhof [main station]
and there are plenty of health food stores [referred to as reform haus] such as Egli [Hauptbanhof & Stauffacher Platz] & Mueller [Rennweg & Oerlikon] in Zurich.

  10. i’m in ! just signed up and totally looking forward to it. (bonus, i love hiltl – rolf and his fabulous purple velvet jackets too !) ironically, i learned about the event last week when in nyc. now i’m back home in zurich, just in time ! :)

  11. I would love to go to this!! Sounds amazing. I found out about it from the Hiltl feed on Facebook. We are huge fans of Hiltl/tibits. Even before we became ethical omnivores (meaning mostly veggie!). Best veggie paella I’ve ever had. yum.

Unfortunately I have a little girl who is no longer a baby to sleep through these sorts of things and has discovered how awesome walking is… too late to arrange childcare I’m afraid. :-(

Love your site, photography, etc. Tina!
