I just received my (second-hand) Gazelle bicycle! I am so happy I might burst! While I love my Strida, I was ready for a comfortable cruiser type of bike, which could also fit a kids seat. The Gazelle it is! But now, where is spring?
Check out the History of Gazelle Bicycles Video below. (I want one of those kids basket to go on the back!)
An old boyfriend who worked for a major bike component company and had access to all sorts of bikes once picked me up at work on a Dutch commuter bike, and it’s one of my favorite memories. It was November in Chicago (chilly!), and I worked 13 miles from my home. I rode side saddle on the bike all the way, through all different neighborhoods I didn’t normally get to see because I took the train to work. After I got past the terror of feeling like I would fall off, it turned magical.

My mom had this basket when i was little :-) Brings back lots of memories! Thanks!
Those baskets are still for sale in the Netherlands (though the safety is a bit questionable) See: http://fietsen-brommers.marktplaats.nl/fietsaccessoires-kinderzitjes/421642149-rieten-fietsstoel-mand.html

The Gazelle bike is beautiful. A very good choice. The Strida however, is quite the opposite.

to make this bike even more perfect, you have to get yourself a bobike “mini” childrens seat for little swiss-mister. most beautiful in black with pepita fabric. even more fun to ride this wonderfull bike with the little one sitting infront of you. both my boys just loved it!

tip, get a second assembly block, like that you can change the seat from moms bike to dads bike with one click.

It’s funny to see these bikes are so populair abroad since they are so common here in the Netherlands.

Lovely, and, er, well cool in a very “old fashioned” way…
… but 30 pounds! Ouch – that’s a lot of extra dead weight to get down the road – and you want to add a kid? I hope you are eating your wheaties and working out every day – you’re gonna need some muscles!. My Terry Symmetry, designed and produced in the US by foremost (and only!) woman’s bike designer Georgena Terry weighs in at 18! Remember, that’s 30 pounds you have to pedal plus your weight and the kids! http://www.terrybicycles.com. Plus – it’s designed to fit a woman’s very, VERY diffferent shape and size…

Thank you, Tina.
We have been trying for years to use more bikes at work. We were even trying to import bakfiets from our friends in Holland.
We did get 2 of these Christiania bikes last year. Love them!

The weather has been perfect for bikes, these past few days.
I’m a college student. I was walking and people zipped past on their bikes. I was pretty much green with envy for them and now for you.

This is great, thanks for sharing. Makes me want to go move some lumber on my bike.

Nadia: exactly the kids seat we have! Pepita is best!
Karen: you were supposed to eat your wheaties anyway. And the workout you get while riding the bike. Seriously though, everybody in the Netherlands uses these bikes, 30 pounds is not that bad. It’s not a track bike so there’s no point in trying to go fast. It’s a different culture.
Also note that there are loads of women riding these bikes with two kids and groceries in the side bags.
As for the site you pointed out; it’s very nice that these are built for women, but we’re really just talking about a bike to get around on, not for riding track or tours for hours on end. Also, a kid will definitely NOT fit on a track bike.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s
simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this.
In addition, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Firefox.
Excellent Blog!
