What your email domain says about you

Here’s an interesting Hunch article discussing what your email domain says about you. I am totally guilty of stereotyping people by their email addresses: A friend recently recommended an accountant. When I saw his email address, I called up my friend and said: “I don’t want to hurt your feelings but I want you to realize that I will never hire anyone that has an aol email address. This person and I live in different solar systems.”

Here’s the link to the article. Make sure to check out the interactive version of the report.

  1. understandable though. i do that too. but when they’re with yahoo, it’s not as bad. a lot of people just haven’t moved, because they’ve been with it so long, even if they know there’s a better way.

  2. i totally stereotype aol users, too!
however, i still have my hotmail account (among others) and i got it in 1996, right when it launched, so i was way ahead of the trend, right?

  3. I’ve got e-mail accounts at Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and “Other”. How old am I? :-)

  4. I have to say, an accountant might be the exception. I’d rather them be versed in the latest tax laws than blogging or being my FB friend…!!

  5. I rest my case – what the HELL is the matter with you??? It doesn’t f*cking matter!!!!! Get a grip! Not everyone is a narcissist and completely self-absorbed! How do you people cope on a day-to-day basis? Are you that guy from As Good As It Gets?

  6. please —
haha i know what you mean, too! i swing both ways, but it can really get stupid.

  7. i am 100% a gmail snob.
