Our switzerland vacation is in full swing and so is my sausage/cheese/potato/bread-diet. The cheese counter in our local store (pictured above) makes my heart jump. On a very non-designy-note: Ever tried Appenzeller Cheese? So yumme!

My boyfriend and I visited Switzerland this spring and it was mostly about the food – sausage, tete de moine cheese, raclette and rosti. And horse meat. We saw it in a Migros grocery store and had to try it, especially since never in a million years would you see it in our native Canada. Imagine our surprise when, speeding along on the train from Bern to Zurich, we turned the package over and it had “Product of Canada” stamped on it!

With my parents living only 50km from the Swiss border I have the chance to shop in Schaffhausen or Basel at least once or twice per year. Appenzeller, Greyezer, Sbrinz are the required minumum before I can allow myself to leave the country again. On top of that I always need some chocolate.

Have spent several years living in Basel and Lausanne and many many train trips and camping trips everywhere in between. Such a wonderful little country.

Appenzeller is my husband’s favorite cheese. We moved to the Jura in Switzerland a little over a year ago and he fell in love with this cheese not long after. :)

aaaaaaahhhhh….you are making me miss my glory days in Switzerland (cervelas cooked over a campfire – the best!). While in Appenzell don’t miss the fantastic Museum Liner – one of the most poetic modern buildings I’ve visited in years (although the full effect is most appreciated with a fresh blanket of snow).
