I had the honor to be part of this very cool project by The Type Directors Club called Beautifully Banal.
TDC and Cardon Copy asked 16 designers to find a classified/personal newspaper ad from our local community to “hijack” typographically. When redesigned, the once banal and disposable classified ads are reinterpreted by the designer into a one-of-a-kind collectible poster. Each poster will be auctioned on Tuesday evening, May 11th (starting at 6:00 pm), with proceeds to benefit the TDC Scholarship Fund.
I also happen to give a talk that night, right before the auction. To register please email the TDC (email on the bottom of this page) or call 1-212-633-8943.
UPDATE: One of my readers, Erik Wessel, pointed out that my classified seems to be from a puppy mill. I had no idea and am sorry to be giving this breeder additional attention with my poster. If you do get a puppy (or a poodle for that matter) please make sure to go through breeders that treat their animals with respect and dignity.
I am *not* endorsing the sale of puppies like this or this breeder, and I simply chose this ad because the idea of “poodles, all colors” was attractive to me as a designer.
Fantastic! I would love to have that poster!

Thank you! You should come and bid on it in that case!

I’d also love to have that poster, but I know it’s going to skyrocket and I don’t have that kind of money at the moment.
This is a really interesting series; makes me want to explore this and other ideas!

What’s funny about your thumbnail SM, is that the hover state makes it look like the poopdle is walking AWAY from you, if you know what I mean.
Or maybe my mind is in the gutter, I mean tree lawn.

I like it…but did you realize that you can make a poodle out of all the letters? Then it would have been a 100% type solution.

Problem sovled. Thumbs up Tina!

My favorite of the series. Love the colors, the simplicity and the choice of breed. I have an awesome Lab mix that I found on the street, but I’ve never understood purebred purchasers that don’t pick poodles.
Smart, athletic, non-allergenic, customizable hair and sized to fit any situation.

Great poster! I wonder what font you used here…

This reminds me of Paul Belford (of This is Real Art); asking well know London design studios to rethink an ‘everyday design’.
Spin did a great remix of a lost dog poster using a sumptuous full bleed of a whippet, while Airside managed to re-illustrate a typical viagra spam e-mail…

This is kind of similar to CARDON WEBB who redesigns found flyers and then puts them back up. http://cardoncopy.com/mission.html

10 million cats and dogs are killed each year in shelters. Breeding and selling any animal is a major part of the cause. Sorry but people who really love animals do not sell pets for profit. Adopt your next pet. You can find any breed on http://www.petfinder.com/index.html or check your local shelters. Please please please stop breeding and selling when millions are being euthanized.
