Home Screen Homie

unnamed

Homescreen Homie lets you put a selfie in the most precious place, the home screen of your friend’s phone, in the form of an app icon. From there, they can tap your face to instantly text, call or view your Instagram profile. You can also create your own gallery of Homies on your phone’s home screen!

If my daughter had a phone she’d be all over this.

Weather by Tinybop

The latest Tinybop app is perfect for my six year old who is obsessed with hurricanes and tornadoes. Weather lets you mix elements and make the weather. It lets you experiment with air and wind, the sun and temperature, water and precipitation. Like all their other apps, Weather is beautifully executed and a big hit at casa swissmiss.

Movi, the Live Event Camera

movi livestream

A few weeks back I had the honor to experience a first proto-type of Movi, a brand-new live event camera by the team of Livestream. Movi lets you edit video on the fly and stream live or share later. I am impressed.

Movi launched for pre-orders..

The Everything Machine

Tinybop just launched The Everything Machine. It reminds me a bit of IFTTT but for your iPhone or iPad. By using a visual programming language The Everything Machine lets you connect the camera, microphone, speakers, light, gyro- scope, and display on your devices.

I don’t think I have been this excited over an iOS app since Monument Valley. Tinybop really experimented with this one. I love experiments.

SayHi Translate App

Say Hi Translate

While on vacation in Switzerland, Ella (9) made a friend that didn’t speak English, so I downloaded them the SayHi Translate App. The app covers 43 languages and dialects. While it’s not always perfect, it sure is helpful and makes for a good laugh here and then. What an amazing time we live in.

Loopimal

This brand-new called Loopimal by YATATOY lets your kid (or yourself) playfully enter the world of computer sequencing. With intuitive and fun gestures Loopimal lets you create quirky animation sequences for different animals. The content is created with loops of melodies, rhythms or movements. I love this!

A lightbulb? A speaker? Both?

Sony’s new LED bulb with an integrated Bluetooth speaker made me look and wonder. I can’t figure out if this is cool or totally absurd. I am weirdly intrigued.

Also, that photo of the couple lovingly smiling at their lamp.

USB Port Extension

Here’s a product I didn’t know I needed until I saw it: The blueLounge Jimi USB Port Extension will end my constant getting up and trying to plug USB devices into the back of my iMac. YES!

Canary Home Security System

G and I installed (our Kickstarter purchased) Canary Home Security System today and we’re impressed. Easy to set up and an incredibly elegant user experience all around. It alerts us if there is motion detected in our home and lets us monitor air quality, temperature and humidity using internal sensors. Impressive!

Waytools Textblade Keyboard

As someone who tries not to type anything longer than one or two sentences on my phone, I could see myself using this keyboard by Waytools when on the go.

Tinybop Homes

Team Tinybop has been hustling: They just launched their third app, illustrated by Tuesday Bassen, called Homes.

It allows you to explore four unique homes around the world, from NYC to Mongolia. Wander in, cook, and play. You can investigate the utilities but watch out for wires spark and tubs overflowing…

The best part, you’re totally allowed to make a mess! Or clean up, with help from a curious cat. What I love the most is that you can personalize each space with your photos and drawings; see yourself in mirrors.

I love the Human Body and Plants, but Homes is definitely my favorite Tinybop baby so far. Try it!

Kangaroo Light

The fine folks behind the Ostrich Pillow just launched the Kangaroo Light Kickstarter campaign.

Kangaroo Light is a portable, playful and flexible lighting product. It was originally designed to fit inside your bag so you can easily locate your belongings, but I think I could find lots of other fun uses for it. I just want to play with it… Two thumbs up!

Just launched: Plants by Tinybop

I am so incredibly excited for my friends at Tinybop: They just released their second iOS app called Plants, a vibrant, interactive diorama of the world’s biomes!

Plants is the second app in Tinybop’s Explorer’s Library. The first, The Human Body, reached the #1 spot on the App Store’s education charts in 143 countries and was named one of the App Store’s Best of 2013. Like the Human Body, Plants is a slow-play app which aims to help kids make connections about the world and prompt big questions. Can’t wait to explore it tonight with my kids!

Buy Plants for $1.99 in iTunes. And most of all, make sure to check out this epic (!) stop animation by Kelli Anderson.
