Horsey Hoppers

Horseyhopper

Simply superb space hopper racing set. The two large child / adult sized space hoppers come with horse covers, jockey caps, a starter’s whistle and finishing flag. The dozy and rather resigned looking horsey heads add to the general surreal amusement. Horsey Hoppers. Hilarious.

An Interview with Nichelle Narcisi

This past October, the design community gathered in Denver for the 2007 AIGA Design Conference to talk about the future of design. What could be more “Next” than the bright young talent of tomorrow? By now most everyone has heard about the wildly successful Command X, graphic design’s first “reality show,” in which seven designers under 26 competed in daily design challenges, presenting their solutions on the conference main stage to be judged by an esteemed panel. All were impressive but one especially talented designer emerged: 24-year-old Nichelle Narcisi, whose youth-targeted voter awareness campaign, with the tagline “Except You,” garnered a standing ovation and even tears from one of the jurors. Here, we spoke with this up-and-comer about her rise to AIGA stardom and why there’s no more room in her life for voter apathy.

Pentagram 2008 Typographic Calendar

Kenknightonline_1975_1319821

Kit Hinrichs has designed Pentagram’s 2008 Classic Typographic Calendar using twelve typefaces designed by typographer Matthew Carter. “I wanted to bring a new awareness of typographic design through this calendar,” said Hinrichs. “Typefaces are pervasive in our daily lives in everything we read and see around us and yet most people are oblivious of them or the circumstances in which they were created. We can gain a new perspective on our world by studying the origin of typefaces. I hope the calendar will encourage a new sensitivity to the importance of typeface usage and the work of Matthew Carter.”

The calendar is available in two sizes, a supersize 33-by-22 inch version suitable for wall hanging and a smaller 18-by-12 inch version appropriate for desk use. Both versions are available in the US and UK at kenknight.com. The price of the supersize calendar is $36 and the smaller desk and wall calendar is $22. (Prices do not include shipping.)

Denial Makes the World Go Round

…In this emerging view, social scientists see denial on a broader spectrum — from benign inattention to passive acknowledgment to full-blown, willful blindness — on the part of couples, social groups and organizations, as well as individuals. Seeing denial in this way, some scientists argue, helps clarify when it is wise to manage a difficult person or personal situation, and when it threatens to become a kind of infectious silent trance that can make hypocrites of otherwise forthright people. …

amateur tennis players doing the Becker Jump

Boris_01

Referring to the biography of Boris Becker swiss Stefan Jandl and Hannes Gloor took photos of amateur tennis players, doing the famous Becker Jump.

(Totally made me smile. And I openly admit it, Boris Becker was my hero when I was about 13 years old. I had my entire room covered with BB parapharnalia. No kidding. )

Hans Hartmann | swiss designer

Graineditcom_wpcontent_uploads_2007

Hans Hartmann is one of the lesser known designers that lived in Switzerland during the 1950s. A google search of his name brings up almost nothing. Outside of his native country his work seems to be lost in obscurity…
