♥ / Minneapolis College of Art and Design Art Sale

A big thank you to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Art Sale (MCAD) for sponsoring this week’s RSS Feed.

This is the week of the MCAD Art Sale—the nation’s largest college art sale. Seeing is believing—just watch the timelapse from the 2009 sale. The event has gained a tremendous reputation as a top destination for affordable, appreciable artwork by emerging artists—all MCAD students and recent alumni.

In less than 14 hours more than 3,500 pieces will be sold. Ticket and travel information are available at mcad.edu/artsale.

That Time Again: Stocking Stuffer Ideas

The Tea Bag Buddy is the perfect stocking stuffer gift for your tea loving friend.

For your slightly paranoid friend: The unique pattern of the ID Guard Stamp masks your name and address on discarded credit card offers, junk mail or magazines. Use it to cover up account numbers, telephone numbers or other identifiable information you don’t want others to access.

Wrap your earbud cords around one of these colorful Macaroon Earbud Holders and suction it to your mobile phone, iPad, tablet or any smooth surface.

Back-up Battery with a Hand Turbine Power Generator

BoostTurbine2000 from Etón is a durable back-up battery with a hand turbine power generator. It enables you to charge your mobile device even when the power is out. In one minute the hand turbine power generator can produce enough power for a 30-second call or a few critical texts. When fully charged, BoostTurbine2000 fully charges most smartphones. Smart.

Donald Pettit on taking photos in Space

I was lucky enough to see this fabulous talk by NASA Astronaut Donald Pettit in person a few weeks ago here in New York at the Luminance Conference. Donald Pettit has called the International Space Station home for a total of 370 days. While there, he’s captured some of the most mind-blowing photos of space – and Earth – we’ve ever seen. In his talk Donald gives us an inside look into what it’s like to take photos of space, why bringing 10 DSLRs with him is actually necessary, and the reason why hard drives tend to fail in zero gravity.

Helping DUMBO Businesses

Last week I launched a SmallKnot Fundraiser to help Robert Elmes, owner of Galapagos Art Space. Hurricane Sandy has devastated his interiors and the damages are over $100K. Galapagos has been our incredibly generous CreativeMornings host for the past few years. Have you attended an event at Galapagos? Then please consider helping them get back on their feet with a small donation.

One Girl Cookies across the street was also hit hard and if you’re in the DUMBO area, please consider visiting their pop up store which is hosted by PowerHouse Arena from 9am-3pm.

Governor, next to One Girl Cookies has a fundraiser up as well.

The DUMBO Business Improvement District is organizing a fundraiser party for the DUMBO businesses. I already got my ticket. See you on wednesday?
