Every time I go and visit the abitare shop here in Brooklyn Heights I am finding myself looking at this vase. So simple, so pretty and so inexpensive. It comes beautifully wrapped in its on fabric covered box. A great gift.

Lost in E-Mail, Tech Firms Face Self-Made Beast
A typical information worker who sits at a computer all day turns to his e-mail program more than 50 times and uses instant messaging 77 times, according to one measure by RescueTime, a company that analyzes computer habits. The company, which draws its data from 40,000 people who have tracking software on their computers, found that on average the worker also stops at 40 Web sites over the course of the day.

The Other Side | Written & Illustrated by Istvan Banyai
I admit, I jump around a lot when surfing the web. It doesn’t happen all that often that something makes me stick around for long. Well, here comes the exception to the rule: “The Other side“, on LookyBook, just had me linger for a good 20minutes. Hat tip to Istvan Banyai. His illustration skills and imagination are impressive. “The Other Side” makes you look AND think. I don’t necesarily would want having to explain this to Ella at this point, she’s clearly too young, but I can’t wait for her being old enough to ‘get it’.
“The Other Side” is a wordless picture book devoted to the study of opposing vantage-points. Each picture–be it a young girl practicing cello and watching a paper airplane soar outside the window, a penguin biking across a deserted highway, or a chick poking its beak through the page–has a corresponding opposite, or “other side.” This book is an entertaining roller coaster of mini-experiences.
A new favorite on my “Bookshelf“.

Ross Didier | Furniture
I am so glad australian based Ross Didier dropped me an email. I met him at his booth at ICFF a few weeks ago and fell in love with two of his products, but never posted about them. Why? I had complete ICFF overload paralysis. But here they are, with a little bit of delay: Ross’ Elfin Stools. They’re stackable, recyclable and can be used indoors as well outdoors. The ‘Dice Range Screens’ had me look. Would love one for our new office!

The Best Way to Present Yourself for an Interview
Fun idea! I’d be impressed if a designer would put so much thought and work into a presentation/interview. Fab!

YAY! MFA in Interaction Design at SVA!
Today, the School of Visual Arts in New York City is unveiling a project the’ve been working on for some time: a new Master of Fine Arts in Interaction Design, a program to launch in Fall of 2009. The program was jointly concepted by Steven Heller, founder of the renowned Designer as Author program, and Liz Danzico (currently sitting 3 desks away from me). Liz will be charting a new path of sorts in coming months, taking on the position as Chair of the program, while continuing to foster her own information architecture and user research practice in parallel. Congratulations Liz! This is fantastic!
