redesigned nyc subway map
Designer Eddie Jabbour put together a beautiful new NYC subway map, but the Metropolitan Transit Authority isn’t interested. I agree with Designobserver: Pity.
bus backpack
Considering how often I am singing the “wheels on the bus” song these days, I should really get Ella one of these zid zid kids Bus Backpack. A belated birthday gift maybe?
Cute!
comic abstraction
Beautiful, elegant site design for Comic Abstraction, a show currently showing at the MoMA!

count along with me | eleven
I *love* Steve Mack’s illustrations and latest Counting Book project. Each week he posts a new page until the whole book exists virtually online for all to enjoy for free. After the book is finished he works up a cover and some bonus material. The book is then published and available for purchase online.
Number 11 made me laugh. Waving with my cup of coffee!
piccolo | grande
I keep finding the BEST STUFF over at pan-dan today. That lady has a good eye! I am crazy about this outdoor furniture called Piccolo | Grande. At first sight it looks just like classic outdoor furniture in teak wood, but by sliding the structure, the staves separate and double in length, transforming a small table in a big one and a small bench in a big bench. Such a great concept!

Paura del foglio bianco (= The fear of the blank page). Desk design by Filippo Protason.

ingo maurer milan 2007
Ingo Maurer Konstantin Grcic installation at Spazio Krizia in Milan, Italy.
update: Claude, a reader, made a comment saying: The installation is not by Ingo Maurer, but by Konstantin Grcic, who was invited by Ingo Maurer to use the courtyard of Spazio Krizia for an installation. Ingo Maurer has been exhibiting at Spazio Krizia during the Salone del Mobile for many years.

Ella Joy = 1
Yesterday, April 21st, was our daugther Ella’s first birthday. G and I were ridiculously excited for her big day. We organized a big bash, which in the end, yes, was more a party for us grown ups. I jokingly called it the “Yay, we survived the first year-party!”
I will now also remember this as the day when the cupcake-goddess in me awakened, as I made my first cupcakes ever.
It was an all around perfect day. And I am sure, all new parents can relate, one’s child first birthday is pretty darn special.
Life is good.

behance | make ideas happen
Scott Belsky emailed me and pointed me to Behance, a team of designers/writers/developers (also transplanted in NYC) figuring out ways to boost productivity in the creative professional community. They believe that all creative realms, society, and life will be a lot more interesting and enjoyable if more creative ideas are pushed forward. I agree with Scott, this is a noble cause and sounds like fun. Learn more:
