TED talks

Picture_13

Oh my god, I won’t be able to get any work done today: TED talks online. Each week they’ll release a new talk, in audio, and video, to download or watch online. For best effect, plan to listen to at least three, start to finish. They have a cumulative effect…

Malcolm Gladwell

Ze Frank

Ross Lovegrove

Joshua Prince-Ramus

David Pogue

Hans Rosling

And so many more I want to see. Oh my, I could just spend my whole day watching these….

lotta jansdotter studio sale

Picture_10 I almost dropped my coffee the other morning when I discovered a sign on the door next to my coffee shop that read "Lotta Jansdotter". As and avid follower of her creations, I knew that Lotta had plans to move to Brooklyn, but little did I know, that she would move right down the street from me! So, I walked on that day, grinning and thinking: Alright, Michelle Williams AND Lotta Jansdotter moved to Boerum Hill. I guess this neighborhood is officially happening!

If you live in NYC and like her designs, listen up: Lotta is having a studio sale this Thursday, October 26th. From 12 – 8pm The studio and office are located at 75c Hoyt Street in Brooklyn (between State and Atlantic)

inspiration

Look at web design these days: Gradients, bursts, big type, rounded corners, pastel colors, and reflections rule the roost. This slavish adherence to Web 2.0 design trends by the “chorus” is resulting in a big snoozefest.

baby pizza?

Gu9at22mjmwwghqz8f6f_l

Now who in the world would dress up their baby as a slice of pizza

Can you imagine that meeting where one of the ‘costume designers’ suggests to his/her boss: What about a pizza slice costume for babies!? Can you see everyone in the room applauding and say ‘Great Idea?’  Uhm, not really, right? I wonder how products like this find a market…

Maybe I just don’t get it!?

super-sized tv remote

Totally cracks me up: Super-Sized TV remote. (available at gifts.com)

With giant buttons, this extra-large remote is easy to use and impossible to lose. Simple to program, this 6-in-1 remote controls your TV, VCR, DVD player, satellite, cable and auxiliary A/V device. It even features glow-in-the-dark buttons, so you can easily find the remote in the dark.

fischli and weiss | the way things go

Picture_3_3

Something just made me think of Fischli and Weiss’s "The way things go" (Der Lauf der Dinge). If you haven’t seen it, make sure to check it out. It’s amazing! (Here’s a short trailer) It’s an art installation inside a warehouse. A 70-100 feet long structure has been constructed using various items waiting to be set in motion by a chain reaction. It’s all about cause and effect, mechanism and art, improbability and precision.

Jaw-dropping!

Oh my! I am pretty sure my downstairs neighbor Aloisia heard me guffaw when I first saw the

Vegetable Cutlery!

Isn’t it the best when a product/design gets an instant reaction out of you? This makes me want to call up Peter Mariagold, the designer, and give him a ‘virtual-this-is-so-fabulous" hug over the phone!

Next time you are missing a fork, grab a banana, a fennel, or a carrot, stick a fork top on and ‘eh voila’. How great and how amusingly absurd! I love it! I absolutely want a set! Serve dinner like this and you’re bound to have a fun time! What a conversation starter!
