Come to our next friday morning meet up | September 19, 2008
I have been getting a lot of emails about when the next morning-coffee-get-together is going to happen… I finally have an answer: Next week! Please join me friday september 19, 2008, for a “Coffee and Chat” at swissmiss studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn. 8.30am – 10 am.
Email me to rs.v.p. (there’s limited space in our studio) and I’ll send you the exact address.
Coffee and munchies will be sponsored by Freshbooks, a billing service I personally use. Like so many of my designer friends, I used to spend way too much time writing my invoices and making sure that they look good. You can’t take the designer out of me, not even when it comes to sending an invoice. I know… I know…
Looking forward to seeing you! And again, make sure to r.s.v.p for directions. And by the way, that’s our view from our studio, it’s worth the trip, I promise!
UPDATE: We’ve reached our full capacity, sorry!
Keith Jarrett – I Loves You Porgy
>
I’ve been listening to Keith Jarrett all morning and thought I’d share the love for his musical talent. I was lucky enough to see Keith do his magic in Geneva a good 10 years ago. The The Köln Concert is my favorite. Listen to it here.

ridiculousdesignrules.com
Like it or love it, we all have rules that help us at work. “Leave it until the last minute.” “Never use a PC.” They make sense because they work for you, and you alone. When you try and make someone else follow them, they stop working and become a joke. The problem is that every rule related to, or governing, design is ultimately ridiculous. Ridiculousdesignrules.com decided to give you a place where you could unload those pretentious sound bites about design you’ve heard from colleagues, clients or anyone else who thinks they know more than you. Designers don’t need anybody else to make us laugh, when we do it so well ourselves.

Oliver Jeffers…
I officially have a new favorite kid’s book author: Oliver Jeffers. My wonderful office mate Jennifer brought in a stack of his books and they keep me from focusing on work… (Must read. Must flip through pages. Must read again!) Lost and Found totally has me smile. Ella, being a huge penguin lover, would love the story. Also, “How To Catch A Star” looks fantastic. And the “The Incredible Book Eating Boy“, you simply can’t top. I just put Oliver Jeffers’ on my list of people I’d like to have ‘coffee with someday’. What a talent!
