Skipping > Walking

Last night I saw some of my Studiomates skip through the studio. I looked at them confused and Akbar was so kind to point me to the above video. I am tempted to skip through the streets of Brooklyn now. You?

Sofa One

I just gasped. I am in love with Sofa One.

CreativeMornings Short with George Lois

Design legend George Lois ended his fantastic CreativeMornings talk with powerful advice for us creative types: It’s all about being courageous. Watch it, it’s only 1:40min.

(What do you think of this new format of us sharing CreativeMornings Shorts?)

Silent Gratitude

“Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone.”

Mailbox App

I am all kinds of excited to get my hands on the Mailbox app once it gets released. Watch the video and see what I mean. I am especially excited for the ability to quickly swipe messages to your archive or trash. And the ability to snooze emails until later with the tap of a button. Well done, Mailbox Team!

Vool. The Wooden Laptop Stand.

Vool is a beauty of a wooden laptop stand brought to you by a member of Dopludo collective. It is made of pine that is grown on an eco conscious farm near the Finnish-Russian border. Simply beautiful.

(thank you Don)

Anoushka Matus

I received postcards with these drawings from Swiss Illustrator Anoushka Matus. They made me laugh out loud.

Brooklyn Internets

This made me laugh: Brooklyn Internets. Don’t know why this is funny? Here.

Atlas Obscura

Atlas Obscura is the a guide to the world’s most wondrous and curious places. In an age where everything seems to have been explored and there is nothing new to be found, Atlas Obscura celebrates a different way of looking at the world. If you’re searching for miniature cities, glass flowers, books bound in human skin, gigantic flaming holes in the ground, bone churches, balancing pagodas, or homes built entirely out of paper, the Atlas Obscura is where you’ll find them.

Toca Hair Salon 2

If there is one kids’ game I find myself playing a lot, it’s the Toca Boca Hair Salon. I admit I giggled in anticipation when I learned that they just came out with a new version today with more hairstyling fun. My favorite new feature? The curling iron!

If you want to buy iPhone and iPad apps for kids, have a close look at the Toca Boca universe. These guys are doing it right!

George Lois’ CreativeMornings talk at the Met

Last month, CreativeMornings/NewYork teamed up with Spectrum and invited advertising legend George Lois to the Met in celebration of the exhibition Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop.

Lois is perhaps best known for the more than ninety-two covers he designed for Esquire magazine between 1962 and 1972, but he is also a prolific art director and author. A fantastic talk, by a design legend, in a humbling venue. A magical morning all around.

The 500 people event took place in The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday, November 16, 2012! George’s talk was filmed by Met staff and edited by Ben Hallman. You can see photos of the event over on Flickr thanks to Katherine Miles Jones.

Sketchbooks

Jenni Sparks’ sketchbook might have just pushed me over the edge. Time to dust off and reactivate my sketchbook tonight.

Itty Bitty Project

The folks of Kiss Me I am Polish took a refreshing stab at kids t-shirts. The result? Itty Bitty Project, a t-shirt series that lets the kids customize their tee. I love the idea, but am afraid the pieces will be lost in no time. But hey, I might be wrong!

Another f***ing Tote

No need to explain – it’s another f***ing tote. Made me chuckle.

Maker’s Row

Have you ever toyed with the idea of making a product but then abandoned the idea immediately after trying to source a manufacturer? If the answer is yes, then you should read on. Maker’s Row is a brand new site by 3 young, smart New Yorkers trying to demystify the process of manufacturing products in the US. Their goal is to make the manufacturing process simple to understand and easy to access. From large corporations to first time designers, Maker’s Row provides unparalleled access
to industry-specific factories and suppliers across the United States.

I can’t applaud the team behind Maker’s Row enough and am impatiently anticipating categories beyond apparel. We produce Tattlys (and everything that goes along with it in the US) and we had our fair share of searching to do ourselves. We can’t wait to share the resources we found!

Mr.Tedi

Anyone who’s ever been to my house knows I am a big fan (and proudly own) two Mr.Tedi Pillows. They made out of re-purposed shirts and are 100% awesome. Annika Jermyn, the creator, just emailed me to let me know that there’s a new cousin in town, TediFace. The family is growing. Hooray!
