fluid

Coverflow

Do you have, like me, 20 or more browser tabs open at all times? Are you tired of some random site or Flash ad crashing your browser and causing you to lose your (say) Google Docs data in another tab? Using Fluid, you can create SSBs to run each of your favorite WebApps as a separate Cocoa desktop application. Fluid gives any WebApp a home on your Mac OS X desktop complete with Dock icon, standard menu bar, logical separation from your other web browsing activity, and many, many other goodies. Sounds fabulous!

Have you used Fluid? Thoughts?

My Happy Things: When someone has to choose an object that they feel represents success or simply makes them happy, the object gives insight to their personality, what they value and just some interesting stories.

Things that keep me awake…

Things that keep me awake in NYC by Greg Hathaway. I could have added one more last night: Reading an article about the state of the economy at 2am. Bad idea.

yard sign gone bunny

Moyer2small

James Moyer, a candidate for State Board of Education (in Ohio–Columbus and its suburbs specifically) emailed me about his unusual political yard sign. For his campaign, he asked a graphic designer to come up with a sign that’s whimsical and kid-like, sporting a bunny, his favorite animal. I must say, it had me chuckle and it would definitely made me look. Would it make me want to vote for him?

Art Crawl: Williamsburg

Artlog is having another promising Art Crawl this friday, in Williamsburg. From North to South Williamsburg, there will be an array of painting, photography, video and installation art. I attended the most recent one in Soho and had a blast. (If you’re thinking of going, use ‘swissmiss’ at the checkout for a 50% discount, thank you Dylan!)

Just stumbled upon this list while perusing amazon.com: The Most Expensive Things I could Find On Amazon.com

client direction:

Eccydrihwegzumc4bynexmpao1_400

The above image is a client direction Joe Bauldoff was given on a recent project. Naturally, he decided to Xerox a 600% magnified copy of it and post it at his desk. I would have done exactly the same. Oh, and by the way, Joe will be our ‘virtual skype video guest‘ at this month’s “creative mornings‘. YAY!

Tech Tips for the Basic Computer User

* Whatever technology you buy today will be obsolete soon, but you can avoid heartache by learning the cycles. New iPods come out every September. New digital cameras come out in February and October.

* On the iPhone, hit the Space bar twice at the end of a sentence. You get a period, a space, and a capitalized letter at the beginning of the next word.

The Measure of a President

06opchart950

The Measure of a President: During the Presidential campaign, much has been made of Barack Obama’s slender physique, with some commentators going so far as to argue that he is too thin for most Americans to relate to him. Does candidate height and weight play a role in electoral success? With Mr. Obama and John McCain set to square off in the second of three presidential debates tomorrow, it seemed worth taking a look through recent history.

‘creative morning’ october 10th, hosted by HUGE

Creativemorning_october_2

Our next ‘Creative Morning’ (previously called coffee+chat) will be Friday October 10th hosted by HUGE. The location is 45 Main St, Second Floor, Brooklyn NY 11201. Its in DUMBO easy to walk to from the High Street A stop or the York Street F Stop. Event opens up at 8:30am with the topic discussion starting at 9:00am. Make sure to r.s.v.p via email as there is only limited space available.

This months topic is “Unproduct” which is “a way for a maker of things to help add value to the things after they’ve been bought. An easy way to add serviceness and community to an object.” That definition comes from Russell Davies, the word is attributed to Matt Jones, and the idea was recently written about in Design Week. My co-host Carl Collins of HUGE will talk a bit about the idea and provide some more examples.

A big thank you to HUGE for hosting and sponsoring this month’s event. Contact me if you have a topic you’re passionate about and would like to present at an upcoming event or would like to host one of our ‘creative mornings’!
