Hooray for another CreativeMorning, on April 23, 2010, with brilliantly talented Illustrator Oliver Jeffers.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
My readers know how much I love Oliver Jeffers. There’s not an evening that goes by at casa swissmiss where we don’t read Ella one of his books. Originally from Ireland, Oliver now lives and works in Brooklyn, just a few blocks from casa swissmiss. His talent is humbling. From figurative painting and installation, to illustration and picture-book making, Oliver Jeffers’ work has been exhibited around the globe. www.oliverjeffers.com

CreativeMornings Video: Allan Chochinov of Core77

Our speaker at the February 2010 CreativeMornings was Allan Chochinov, editor-in-chief of Core77.com. My friend Liz Danzico was so generous to fill in for me as the hostess, as I was busy tending to newborn swissmister. She generously hosted the event at the SVA MFA of Interaction space. Thank you again, Liz, and team!

In case you are wondering about Allan’s comment in the beginning: There was a huge snowstorm that morning and the night before the event and we weren’t sure if anyone would show up. But a good 50 brave souls ventured out to enjoy Allan’s fabulous talk (and serenade for Tilo!). It was well worth it, see yourself and watch his presentation:

A big giant thank you to Roland Lazarte who once again has been generously offering his video and editing skills.

Fantastic write-up of this morning’s CreativeMornings Talk by Allan Chochinov over at soulellis.com. Thank you Paul!

Youngest Virtual Guest Ever

Allan Chochinov of Core77 was our fantastic speaker at today’s snowy CreativeMornings which was generously hosted by the MFA in Interaction Design of SVA. Liz Danzico (Bobulate) was so kind to fill in for me.

Tilo (12 days) and I had the honor to experience the event from ‘the other side’ as Virtual Guests. Below are some images I took during the event. Quite a surreal experience, I must say! I even got to ‘virtually’ enjoy the breakfast, generously sponsored by MailChimp!

Allan’s talk about “Cascading sequence of contingencies and consequences” (#bucketfail), including an impressive serenade in the beginning for Tilo, will be posted on www.creativemornings.com shortly! Stay tuned!

CreativeMornings Video: Michael Bierut on Clients

Our speaker at the January 2010 CreativeMornings was Michael Bierut of Pentagram hosted at the fabulous Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn. It was our biggest CreativeMornings audience yet with 300 (!) NYC creatives attending. Enjoy Michael’s insightful presentation in the video below. It’s a brand new talk on the subject of “Clients”. A big giant thank you to Roland Lazarte who once again has been generously offering his video and editing skills.

If I could wish for any speaker it would be….

At today’s CreativeMornings I asked the following question: If you could wish for any speaker it would be…. See more answers over on flickr.

Did you attend but we didn’t capture your answer? Or do you simply have a good suggestion for an upcoming CreativeMornings speaker, please leave your suggestion in a comment below.

(thank you sara, for taking the photos)

Today’s CreativeMornings with Michael Bierut

Amazing Michael Bierut was today’s CreativeMornings speaker and boy did he set the bar high for any upcoming events. Galapagos was jam-packed with approx 300 attendees, attentively listening to Michael’s brandnew talk about ‘Clients’. A few weeks back, he asked me if I had anything specific in mind for him to talk about, and as I had a particularly bad client experience that day, I basically said: “I would love to hear your wisdom when it comes to dealing and handling clients!” Very much to my surprise, Michael whipped together a fantastic talk about just that. I can not wait to share the talk with you once the video is ready. (For now, you can check out previous talks over at vimeo.com/creativemornings.)

If you would like to read up on some of the things Michael Bierut had to say in his talk, please refer to the below write-ups:

A big thank you to Blurb and Behance for sponsoring breakfast. (Lucky us, Behance handed out their brandnew line of action products which will only go on sale next week! Whee!)

A big virtual wave to Galapagos and their team for hosting this morning’s event. Can a venue be any cooler? Make sure to sign up with their Mailing List so you stay on top of cool happenings at Galapagos DUMBO.

Jon Tan of Analog, located in Bristol UK was our virtual guest this morning. Make sure to check out his blog filled with web typography goodness.

And a big thank you goes to Roland for filming and my dear friend Sara Wasilausky for shooting the morning and Brian Luckey for color-correcting the shots. No idea what I would have done without you all!

You can see the photos of this mornings event over at flickr.

CreativeMornings Video: Charlie Todd

Our speaker at the December 2009 CreativeMornings was Charlie Todd of Improv Everywhere hosted at the fantastic Invisible Dog Art Space in Brooklyn. It was one of our most humorous CreativeMorning’s ever, we had many good laughs. Enjoy Charlie’s presentation in the video below, thanks to Roland Lazarte who once again has been generously offering his video and editing skills. Thank you Roland!

How excited am I to announce next week’s CreativeMorning?

Charlie Todd, the inspiring force behind Improv Everywhere will be our upcoming speaker and I am *thrilled*! I am a huge fan of Charlie’s Flash Mob Missions and can’t wait to hear more about the person behind it all.

For those of you not familiar with Improv Everywhere: Improv Everywhere regularly organizes scenes of ‘chaos’ and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of volunteer undercover agents. The group is based in New York City. Some of my personal mission highlights are:

Frozen Grand Central:

Invisible Dog

It’s in fact the Invisible Dog mission that connected me with Charlie of Improv Everywhere, Keith Schweitzer of No Longer Empty and finally Lucien Zayan our host this month and the inspiring force behind the Invisible Dog Space in Brooklyn. (Here’s an article on Lucien’s mission over at the NYTimes.) The Invisible Dog Space is at 51 Bergen Street, right off Smith Street and calls a three story factory building its home. The Invisible Dog Space includes an art gallery, artist studios, a huge open event space, an amazing freight elevator and a basement filled with vintage finds. (I was lucky enough to get a full tour and truly fell in love with the building and cause!) A big thank you to Lucien for generously hosting this month’s CreativeMorning.

This month’s breakfast is generously sponsored by FieldNotes. Inspired by the vanishing subgenre of agricultural memo books, ornate pocket ledgers and the simple, unassuming beauty of a well-crafted grocery list, the Draplin Design Company, Portland, Oregon in conjunction with Coudal Partners of Chicago, Illinois bring you “FIELD NOTES” in hopes of offering, “An honest memo book, worth fillin’ up with good information.”

CreativeMornings Video: Zachary Lieberman

Our speaker at the October 30th, 2009 CreativeMornings was brilliant and much admired Zachary Lieberman. Zachary has a simple goal: he wants you surprised. He creates artwork that uses technology in a playful and seamless way to explore the nature of communication and the delicate boundary between the visible and the invisible.

Ready for another CreativeMorning?

Our speaker on November 20th 2009, is Matias Corea, Chief Designer at Behance, an innovative company dedicated to organizing the creative world to make ideas happen. As the company’s founding designer, he has shaped the brand identity and design of all Behance products, including the Behance Creative Network, the 99% conference, and Action Method.

Born and raised in Barcelona, Matias received his BFA in Graphic Design from Massana Art School. While in school, Matias had the opportunity to work at his father’s architecture studio space and develop his secondary passion. This love of architecture influenced him immensely and brought an inherent order to his work. Finally, his geeky passion for organizing information found its home at Behance. There, Matias developed his skills as a web designer, with no prior web experience – relying solely on basic design principles, an obsession with structure, and common sense.

It’s CreativeMorning week here on planet swissmiss!

Our speaker at this friday’s CreativeMornings, October 30th, 2009, is brilliant and much admired Zachary Lieberman. Zachary has a simple goal: he wants you surprised. He creates artwork that uses technology in a playful and seamless way to explore the nature of communication and the delicate boundary between the visible and the invisible.

Recently, he helped create visuals for the facade of the new Ars Electronica Museum, wrote software for an augmented reality card trick, and helped develop a 3d drawing tool, a car driven typeface and an open source eye tracker to help a paralyzed graffiti artist draw again. In addition to making artistic work, Lieberman is a co-creator of openframeworks, a toolkit for creative coding and teaches at Parsons School of Design.
