SolarStrap

SolarStrap: Charge Your Gadgets While Traveling

The SolarStrap is a thin and lightweight solar panel on a wearable badge. It’s made in Finland by Suntrica and weighs about 2 ounces. It’s easy to put the SolarStrap on any bag, backpack or shirt thanks to a folding tab. It stores solar energy in a small battery, than can be used to charge up your cellphone, iPod or any other gadget. It retails for about $40.

TopUp Head Protection

TopUp Head Protection is a compactable honeycomb structure helmet made from robust textiles that folds flat for easy transport. It’s currently only a prototype. I could see myself using it…

work of art

broken iphone

My iPhone Screen shattered over the weekend. After I looked up how much a replacement screen is, I taped up my screen and guess what, it still works. In only 48 hours I’ve come across 5 (!) iPhone users that also have a taped up screen and are not even considering getting it repaired, as paying $200 for a new glass seems outrageous.

So, here I am, embracing my taped up iPhone and ask you, my lovely readers, to also, proudly share yours in this Flickr Group I just started.

My iPhone’s not broken, it’s a work of art.

Charging Garden

I saw this Charging Station at Kikkerland’s ICFF Booth. It put a smile on my face. If I had this at home and I had visitors, I’d say: “Welcome to my gadget garden!”

ICFF 09 | Geneva

Geneva Stereo

The Geneva Booth was packed when I got there. It looked (and sounded) fantastic. I admit, I was surprised how much I liked the Geneva Sound Home Theatre, I had never seen it in person. They also introduced the brandnew Walnut Series. A beauty!

GENEVA XL Stereo

Last week, I cam close to hugging the lovely chap that delivered and installed a GENEVA XL in our studio. I kept bouncing up and down, snapping pictures going YAY! I must have *so* annoyed the heck out of him.

We have now been using the XL for a good week and we give it a 12 thumbs up. (That’s how many thumbs are in this studio!) Even though it comes with built in radio and CD Player, we mostly stream Pandora stations from our iPhone’s all day long. The sound is fantastic and the piece is a beauty and a real conversation starter. Now, every morning when I enter the studio, I say hi to both our Ideapaint wall and our red little friend, the GENEVA XL! See all pictures of the unboxing here.

On a sidenote: GENEVA is having a contest where you can win one of their fantastic stereos: genevasoundcontest.com

Type (Laptop) Tray

vpr0005612_p1jpg

Feel the burn during your workout, not while you’re working. Laptops are notorious for putting out too much heat for the average lap. With the Type Tray as a middle layer, the heat dissipates through 3/4″ of 100% industrial wool felt. Crisis averted. The Type Tray features a lovely typographic design of P22 Kilkenny and Cavetto, laser-cut into the felt. Made from recycled (and recyclable) materials, through an eco-friendly manufacturing process.

Laptop Felt Sleeve

I am the proud owner of one of these Felt Laptop Sleeves by Redmaloo. Who knew one can get excited about a laptop sleeve? This one is a real beauty and head-turner when ‘unfolded’ in public. The right hand flap (or left side, if you’re a lefty) functions as a mousepad. Genious!

The new iPod Shuffle is ridiculously small. (Why wouldn’t Apple let me embedd their video either?)

The Cellphone, Navigating Our Lives

Increasingly, phones will allow users to look at an image of what is around them. You could be surrounded by skyscrapers but have an immediate reference map showing your destination and features of the landscape, along with your progress in real time. Part of what drives the emergence of map-based services is the vast marketing potential of analyzing consumers’ travel patterns. For example, it is now possible for marketers to identify users who are shopping for cars because they have traveled to multiple car dealerships.

Quad Camera

Splash_s

QuadCamera is the the 4th release by Art&Mobile of their ToyCamera series and features continuous shooting. Just pressing the button, and it takes 4-8 serial shots to create one image in multiple dimensions and repetitions: a 4×2 portrait, 4×1, 2×2 landscape, and 8×1 landscape. Love. Love. Love.

Socket Deer

02_2

Socket Deer outlet covers let you put your mobile phone on the wall as it recharges. The antlers for all three types of deer are already the perfect shape to hold things, so Nendo hardly had to modify the forms at all. The tough urethane rubber they used for the cover holds handsets tightly, and also protects the antlers from breakage should you bump into them. Socket-deer can also be used as a cover for light switches, and the antlers make an excellent hook for keys or accessories. I am in love!

Michael wrote up a post about the Nooka Zon. Matthew Waldman, the mastermind behind Nooka, was my first boss here in NYC and I remember the morning when he walked into the studio and showed me a sketch of his first Nooka. Wonderful to have seen Nooka evolve into such a big brand.
